Our Ministries

Blackwater Ministerial Association
The Blackwater Ministerial Association (BMA) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization created by local churches in Davis and Thomas to address matters of common
interest. The BMA maintains oversight and financial management of the local food pantry, conducts periodic service projects in support of disadvantaged persons in our community, and advocates for joint worship services during times of special celebrations of faith. Pastor Ruth currently chairs the BMA.
Food Pantry
Under the auspices of the Blackwater Ministerial Association, a food pantry is located in Davis and holds a once-monthly distribution of food to approximately 100 families in the local area. The food pantry is housed in St. John’s church building’s basement and staffed
by volunteers from the St. John’s congregation, other local churches, and the community at large.

Individual & Group Spiritual Direction
Spiritual Direction is learning to hear God’s voice, to see God in action, and to follow the Spirit’s urging. Pastor is available for individual Spiritual Direction for those wishing to deepen their relationship with God; she currently leads a monthly women’s group Spiritual Direction session via Zoom as well. Contact Pastor Ruth
to make an appointment or to learn more.
Senior Center
The Tucker County Senior Center has facilities in Parsons and Thomas in support of local seniors. The centers offer opportunities for regular fellowship, weekday meals, educational programs and presentation of current information of use and interest to local seniors. Many church members and Pastor Ruth are involved with the Senior Center.

Cortland Acres
Tucker County is blessed having Cortland Acres, an award-winning nursing, rehabilitation, and retirement community located near the town of Thomas. Cortland Acres originated from the response of St. John’s and St. Thomas Catholic Church to a community need. Pastor Ruth regularly visits church and other community members living there and volunteers to support Cortland Acres.
Alcoholics Anonymous
Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meets at the St. John’s church building weekly. Currently the meeting is held Monday evenings at 7PM.
